About Tulla Upholstery Studio
Tulla Upholstery Studio, run by Georgia Grimond, is a small bespoke upholstery and furniture business based in North London.
It was founded on a philosophy of repairing, restoring and reimagining existing furniture. Chairs often have a story to tell – cracks, tack holes, well-worn groves, many layers of fabric from different decades, even notes left by previous owners or upholsters.
At Tulla Upholstery Studio, we like to continue a chair’s story, writing the next chapter by making it stylish and functional for today and importantly for your home and lifestyle. Working with chairs, sofas, bedheads, chests, ottomans and more besides, Georgia brings patience and skill to tired but treasured pieces.
Through a careful process of understanding what you want from your item of furniture, how you’d like it to look and, importantly, how you want it to feel or perform, Georgia will guide you through material and fabric choices to help you bring your vision to fruition. There is nothing she enjoys more!
The pandemic plus a small baby led Georgia to turn away from a career as travel writer towards her passion – fabric and textiles. Forgetting she had had a sewing machine since she was a teenager, the pandemic led her to dust it off and reingnite her interest in making and altering things.
She then trained for three years at Shoreditch Design Rooms achieving a Diploma in Upholstery, accredited by the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF) before setting up Tulla.
She loves to discover which fabrics make what chair sing and to bring colour, texture, print and pattern into people’s homes. She works on her own chairs and sofas, often bought at fairs, markets and auctions, with her favourite fabrics. Click here for a selection for sale.
